Howdy and welcome to Harper Barbecue

Our name reflects this portion of Costa Mesa that was once called The Little Town of Harper. Named after a prominent cattle rancher before Costa Mesa’s incorporation in 1953.

We started welding offset smokers in 2015 out of necessity—no one was building that style of pit this side of Texas. See (@Harper_Pitworks). What began as a workaround turned into a deep love for live-fire cooking. But over time, the traditional, heavy BBQ trays just didn’t feel like us. So we decided to do things differently—creating barbecue that reflects our lifestyle here: fresh produce, whole foods, prime meats, and absolutely no shortcuts.

A concept that was kicked around over a decade ago had become a real possibility soon after. Our family dove in head first. “When are you gonna open?” A question we were tired of hearing while plowing through red tape to get this place open. Here we are today, sharing our vision of simple food done well that makes you feel good in a space that feels far removed from our busy lives.

Thanks for joining us, hope you dig it!
